Description
Light, buttery popcorn tossed with savory furikake seasoning for a crunchy, umami-packed snack that is perfect for movie nights, parties, or anytime cravings hit.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil such as vegetable or canola oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons furikake seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon fine salt, optional
Instructions
- Place a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat and add the neutral oil. Drop in 2 or 3 popcorn kernels and cover with a lid.
- When the test kernels pop, add the remaining popcorn kernels and cover. Gently shake the pot to coat the kernels evenly in oil.
- Keep the lid slightly ajar to allow steam to escape and shake the pot occasionally as the popcorn pops to prevent burning.
- When the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat and transfer the popcorn to a large mixing bowl.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the warm popcorn and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Sprinkle the furikake seasoning and optional fine salt over the popcorn and toss again until well distributed.
- Serve immediately while warm and crisp.
Notes
- Taste before adding extra salt since furikake is already seasoned.
- For dairy-free popcorn, use plant-based butter instead of unsalted butter.
- Store completely cooled popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
