Description

Classic golden french toast with a soft custardy center and lightly crisp edges, made with simple pantry ingredients for a comforting breakfast favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 thick slices bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter to coat the pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, coating both sides evenly without oversoaking.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices onto the heated skillet.
  5. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  6. Remove from the skillet and repeat with remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.
  7. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for better absorption.
  • Cook over medium heat to prevent burning.
  • Do not oversoak the bread to avoid sogginess.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for later use.
