Festive Christmas tree cookie stacks made from buttery sugar cookies layered with green vanilla icing for a beautiful and delicious holiday treat.

- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for icing
- Green food coloring
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Wrap dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut star shapes in graduated sizes.
- Place cookies on baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool completely.
- In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and green food coloring until smooth and pipeable.
- Pipe icing onto the center of the largest star and stack the next smaller star on top, rotating slightly for a tree effect.
- Continue stacking until the smallest star is placed on top.
- Allow icing to set before serving.
Notes
- Chill the dough to prevent spreading.
- Make sure cookies are fully cooled before stacking.
- Adjust milk in icing for desired consistency.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days.
