- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional)
Instructions
- Place a large heavy bottomed pot over medium heat. Add oil and 2 or 3 popcorn kernels. Cover with a lid.
- When the test kernels pop, remove them and add the remaining popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover the pot.
- Gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner to keep kernels moving.
- Continue shaking occasionally as popping increases. Keep the lid slightly ajar to release steam.
- When popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat.
- Carefully remove the lid and drizzle with melted butter if using.
- Sprinkle with salt and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Transfer to a large bowl and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a heavy bottomed pot to prevent burning.
- Shake the pot during popping for even heat distribution.
- Store cooled popcorn in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
