  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk, cold
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing tops)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Lightly flour your work surface and have your rolling pin and biscuit cutter ready.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir until the dough comes together. Turn onto the floured surface, pat into a rectangle, fold into thirds, and repeat 2–3 times. Roll out to 1 inch thick and cut biscuits.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Place biscuits on the baking sheet, slightly touching. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden.
  6. Finishing Touches: Brush tops with melted butter right out of the oven.

Notes
