Description

Warm, golden Mediterranean Tuna Melts layered with flaky tuna, juicy tomatoes, briny olives, fresh herbs, and bubbling mozzarella over crisp sourdough. A bright and comforting meal that is quick, satisfying, and packed with coastal flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 ounces each) tuna in olive oil, drained
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup Kalamata olives, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 large slices sourdough bread
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine drained tuna, red onion, cherry tomatoes, olives, parsley, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently until evenly mixed.
  3. Arrange sourdough slices on the prepared baking sheet and toast lightly in the oven for 3 minutes.
  4. Spoon the tuna mixture evenly over each slice of bread.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the tuna mixture.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes for a golden top, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Remove from oven, cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Drain tuna thoroughly to prevent soggy bread.
  • Lightly toasting the bread before assembling helps maintain crisp texture.
  • Freshly shredded cheese melts more smoothly than pre-shredded varieties.
  • The tuna mixture can be prepared up to 1 day in advance and refrigerated.
