  • 1 1/4 cups (300 milliliters) warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 grams) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (9 grams) salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Stir in olive oil, flour, and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Transfer dough to the prepared baking sheet and gently stretch into an oval shape.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut one long slit down the center and several diagonal slashes on each side. Gently pull the cuts open to create a leaf pattern.
  8. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until deeply golden brown.
  9. Brush lightly with olive oil after baking and allow to cool slightly before serving.
