Description
Homemade caramel apples are crisp fresh apples dipped in rich, buttery caramel, creating a classic sweet treat that feels nostalgic, cozy, and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 wooden sticks
Instructions
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples, then insert wooden sticks into the tops and set aside.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place it near your work area.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, unsalted butter, heavy cream, and light corn syrup.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the butter melts and the mixture begins to bubble.
- Continue cooking until the caramel reaches about 245°F, then remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Carefully tilt the saucepan and dip each apple into the caramel, turning to coat evenly and allowing excess caramel to drip off.
- Place the coated apples onto the prepared baking sheet and let them set at room temperature until the caramel firms up.
- Serve once set, or store for later enjoyment.
Notes
- Make sure apples are completely dry so the caramel sticks properly.
- Work quickly once the caramel is ready, as it thickens as it cools.
- Let apples set fully at room temperature for the best texture.
