Description

This Halloween Layer Cake features bold orange, purple, and black layers with rich chocolate ganache, topped with spooky candy eyes and festive sprinkles. A true showstopper for any Halloween party!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Gel food coloring (orange, purple, black)
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Candy eyes and Halloween-themed sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  4. Divide the batter evenly into three bowls and color each with gel food coloring (orange, purple, and black).
  5. Pour colored batters into separate prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. To make ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering, pour over chopped dark chocolate, let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  7. Stack cake layers with a thin layer of ganache between each. Spread ganache over the top and sides. Decorate with candy eyes and sprinkles.
  8. Chill for 30 minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant hues without affecting batter texture.
  • Bake layers ahead of time and store tightly wrapped for up to 2 days before assembling.
  • Let ganache cool to a spreadable consistency for smoother frosting.
