Description
A hearty, rustic skillet meal featuring golden fried potatoes, caramelized onions, and smoky Polish sausage — simple, satisfying, and packed with flavor.
Ingredients
- Russet Potatoes: 4 large (about 2 pounds), peeled and diced
- Smoked Polish Sausage: 1 pound, sliced into rounds
- Yellow Onion: 1 large, sliced thin
- Olive Oil: 3 tablespoons
- Butter: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: 1 teaspoon, or to taste
- Black Pepper: ½ teaspoon, freshly ground
- Garlic Powder: ½ teaspoon
- Fresh Parsley: 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Your Equipment: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat until hot.
- Combine Ingredients: Parboil diced potatoes in salted water for 5 minutes, then drain well.
- Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Add olive oil and butter to the skillet, letting it melt and shimmer.
- Assemble the Dish: Add the potatoes first, spreading them evenly. Let them cook undisturbed for a few minutes to form a golden crust.
- Cook to Perfection: Add sliced onions and sausage. Stir occasionally until the potatoes are crisp and the sausage browned, about 10–12 minutes.
- Finishing Touches: Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat everything evenly.
- Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot straight from the skillet.
Notes
- Use a cast iron skillet for the crispiest potatoes.
- Drain parboiled potatoes completely to avoid sogginess.
- Add onions halfway through cooking to prevent burning.
- Garnish right before serving for the freshest look.
