Description

This Easy Beef Picadillo is a one-pan Latin-inspired dish bursting with flavor from ground beef, tomatoes, olives, and a hint of sweetness from raisins. It’s comforting, quick, and perfect for weeknights.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1/2 cup sliced green olives
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add olive oil and sauté diced onions until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  3. Push onions aside, add ground beef, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Add tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Stir in cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  5. Fold in raisins and olives. Simmer on low for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning. Add broth or water if needed for consistency.
  7. Serve hot over rice, garnished with fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

  • Soak raisins in warm water beforehand for plumper texture.
  • Use lean beef to avoid excess grease.
  • Make it spicy by adding jalapeños or red chili flakes.
