Ingredients
- 10 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions, chopped
- 3 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh sage, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place cubed bread in a large mixing bowl.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and celery and sauté for 10–12 minutes until soft and fragrant.
- Pour sautéed vegetables and butter over bread cubes. Add sage, parsley, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine.
- In a small bowl, whisk together eggs and broth. Pour over the bread mixture and gently mix until evenly moistened.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and crisp.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
- Use completely dried or toasted bread for best texture.
- Vegetable broth makes this dish vegetarian-friendly.
- Refrigerate unbaked stuffing up to 1 day in advance.
- Add sautéed mushrooms or sausage for variation.
