Description

Juicy, herb-infused Greek-style biftekia served with golden, crispy hand-cut chips. A rustic and comforting Mediterranean classic perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into thick chips
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat your frying pan over medium heat with olive oil and heat vegetable oil in another pan for frying chips.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, grated onion, garlic, parsley, oregano, olive oil, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until combined.
  3. Shape into thick oval patties and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Peel and cut potatoes into thick chips, soak in water for 10 minutes, then pat dry.
  5. Fry chips until golden and crispy. Set aside on paper towels.
  6. Cook biftekia for 5–6 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked.
  7. Sprinkle chips with salt and add lemon juice over biftekia before serving.
  8. Plate and serve with optional tzatziki or salad.

Notes

  • Let meat mixture rest before shaping for deeper flavor.
  • Soak and dry potatoes well before frying for best crisp.
  • Use cast iron for perfect sear on patties.
  • Chill shaped patties to help them hold together.
