Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 slices bread, cubed
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  3. Spread cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.
  4. Layer cooked sausage, shredded cheese, and green onions over the bread.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole ingredients.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until center is set and top is golden.
  8. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
