- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 6 slices bread, cubed
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Spread cubed bread evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.
- Layer cooked sausage, shredded cheese, and green onions over the bread.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole ingredients.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until center is set and top is golden.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for best texture and to prevent sogginess.
- Add sautéed veggies like bell peppers or spinach for more flavor and color.
- Top with fresh herbs or hot sauce before serving for extra zing.
