Description

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add patties and cook for about 4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter, then whisk in flour to make a roux. Gradually add beef broth while whisking until smooth.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and let the gravy simmer until it thickens.
  5. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes on low heat.
  6. Top with caramelized onions if desired and serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef to keep the patties tender.
  • For extra flavor, use beef broth instead of water in the gravy.
  • Let the patties simmer in the gravy to absorb flavor before serving.
