A warm and comforting broccoli au gratin made with tender broccoli florets coated in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with a golden, crispy breadcrumb crust.

- 5 cups broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Blanch broccoli for 2 to 3 minutes until bright green, then drain and place in the baking dish.
- Melt butter in a skillet, whisk in flour, and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in milk while whisking until thickened.
- Stir in cheddar, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the broccoli.
- Mix breadcrumbs with olive oil and sprinkle on top.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
- Use freshly grated cheese for the smoothest sauce.
- Add a pinch of paprika for color and warmth.
- Prepare ahead by assembling without breadcrumbs and adding them just before baking.
